AC running but not cooling
The unit runs and the fan turns, but the air is not cold enough. Possible causes include dirty filters, low refrigerant, a compressor fault or a dirty condenser.
AC blowing warm air
This often means the outdoor unit is not working properly, or there is an issue with the compressor, capacitor or settings.
Water leaking from the indoor unit
A blocked drain pipe, an incorrectly sloped unit or a frozen evaporator can cause water to drip onto walls or floors.
Loud noise or vibration
Noise may come from the fan, a loose part, the outdoor unit mounting or the compressor itself.
Unusual smells
A musty smell often comes from dirt and mould inside the unit. A burning smell means you should switch the AC off immediately and arrange an inspection.
Compressor stopping
If the outdoor unit starts and quickly shuts off, or does not start at all, the electrical components and compressor need checking.
Ice on the unit
Ice on the pipes or evaporator may indicate restricted airflow or low refrigerant.
Weak airflow
Blocked filters, indoor fan faults and duct problems in central AC systems are among the most common causes.
Thermostat and remote control faults
Failure to respond to the set temperature or irregular switching on and off may be caused by a sensor or control board fault.
Electrical problems
Repeated breaker trips or an AC that will not start require checks of the wiring, capacitor and electronic control board.
Refrigerant leaks
Cooling that gradually weakens, along with oil marks on connections, may indicate a leak that needs locating and repairing before refilling.
